Tips on how to select a Hammock

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Most everyone loves the idea of relaxing in their backyard or campsite on a hammock.  But selecting the correct hammock for your use can be a bit challenging.  Hammocks come in a wide variety of sizes, types and materials which are suited for different uses.  For example, the material could be cotton, polyester or canvas.  While the cotton hammock is most suited for indoor use and occasional outdoor use, the polyester hammock will stand up to almost any weather conditions with no problem.  The cotton rope hammock is generally the most popular although the rope does not wear well over time if exposed to the constant outdoor environment.  From personal use, I’ve always found the polyester hammocks can be bit warm during hot summer days.  The rope hammocks allow a soft breeze to flow over your entire body.

Another consideration is the amount of space you have to dedicate to your new hammock.  If planning for use on a deck or patio, you might consider the new hammock chairs or swings.  Although the hammock chairs are not as comfortable as the standard rope hammocks, they offer the ease of hanging from a single rope and take up much less space.  All true hammock chairs are made to be hung from an overhead support.  Many times a porch roof beam or overhang will do the job.   But as popularity has grown, some manufacturers have created stand-alone hanging systems which enable you to move your hammock chair into more open areas. They are also much more stable and might be a good option for use by children or the elderly.

If your deck is large enough, you might consider using a full size hammock installed in a hammock stand.  Hammock stands might be made of wood or steel.  The wood hammock stands offer a great durable and classy option and contributes to the overall appearance of your hammock.  The drawback as you might expect is generally the wood hammock stand are a bit more expensive.  It is easy to find package deals which includes hammock and stand.  This of course makes the selection process a bit easier.

A Comprehensive Background in Balloons

Introduction

When you think of the word ‘Balloons’ what pictures appear in your mind? Is it simple balloons you blow up for children’s parties, or balloons that fly off on their own, or the special balloons for key events like the ones produced for the wedding of Charles and Diana? There are now so many different types of balloons on the market that you can get almost anything for everything any event you like.

So what exactly is a balloon? One definition defines a balloon as a flexible bag which you fill with air or some other type of gas, such as helium or hydrogen. The early balloons would have been made with non flexible material but modern balloons are made with latex so they have great elasticity and can be pumped up to much larger sizes.

History of Balloons

The earliest known balloons were made in Central and Southern America by the Aztec Indians. They were made out of the bowels of cats which were carefully cleaned then turned inside out. They were sewn with special vegetable thread that had the property of sticking to itself when dried in the sun and creating an almost airtight seal. The balloons were then made into air filled model animals and burned at the top of the Aztec pyramid as an offering to the sun god. (The first example of balloon modelling). A Portuguese priest, Bartolomeu de Gusmao, held the first public exhibition of a balloon in the Portuguese Court in Lisbon in 1709 which was probably made from an animal bladder that stretched when filled with air. The rubber balloon was invented in 1824 by a Michael Faraday and was filled with hydrogen to be used in his experiments with hydrogen. But the familiar latex balloon did not appear until 1847.

The early rubber balloons were sold in America in Parks and Circuses for a penny each. Although the latex balloon was manufactured in London in the mid 1800’s the mass production of them did not happen until much later in 1931.

As technology has become more advanced so has the world of balloons. Now balloons can be made from rubber, latex, polychloroprene or nylon. They can be filled with air, helium, hydrogen or water. Filling the balloon with air can be done with the mouth, a manual pump(such as a hand pump), or electric inflator or with compressed gas. The balloons are used for many differing purposes, and decorated in numerous ways to suit the circumstance.

Some balloons are purely for decoration, others are ideal for specialist purposes because of their low density and relatively low cost. The balloon’s properties have led to them being used in a wide range of other applications in the areas of meteorology, military defense, medical treatment, and transportation.

Types of Balloons

Party Balloons

The most common and familiar types of balloons are the party balloons. These are usually bought in small packets and blown up with a pump to create a festive scene for children’s parties and other kinds of celebratory events where balloons can make all the difference.

These days I often see a cluster of balloons at the entrance to a house or hall to indicate where the party is being held. The balloons come in many different sizes and colours and can have printing on the face which expands as the balloon is inflated. Party Balloons are mostly made of natural latex tapped from rubber trees. The rubber’s elasticity makes the volume variable. Balloons filled with air usually hold their size and shape much longer.

Helium Balloons

Balloons which float upwards are filled with the gas helium which is lighter than air. So for an event where balloons are let off into the atmosphere, they will need to be helium balloons. Helium filled rubber balloons typically only retain their buoyancy for a few days. The enclosed helium atoms are smaller than the pores in the latex through which they escape. To increase the float time of a helium balloon for a week or more, the inside of the balloons can be coated with a special polymer solution to reduce the leakage of the helium.

Water Balloons

The water balloons are often smaller than regular balloons and made from thin rubber so that they can be easily broken. They are filled with water and are intended for children to throw at each other as a game or practical joke with the aim of getting each other drenched. They may also be used in competitions or games.

Foil Balloons

In the late 1970s along came the foil balloon. These are made of thin non-stretch metalized plastic film or mylar. They are much more expensive and made an appearance at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana causing quite a stir. These balloons have attractive shiny reflective surfaces and can be printed with color pictures, logos and patterns to customize them. The most important property of metalized nylon for balloons is its ability to keep the helium gas from escaping for several weeks because it is less permeable. Foil balloons then have the advantage of being light weight, longer-lasting, with increased buoyancy. They are perfect for parties, in-store decorations, special celebrations and for gifts.

Animal-Shaped Balloons

Metalized nylon balloons can be cut into the three dimensional shapes of animals and then printed to represent the chosen animal. Once inflated the balloons make very bright, decorative items for gifts or may be used as a theme for a special event. Screen printing is used to create the designs for these spectacular pieces.

Balloon Modelling and Balloons in Art

Balloon modelling is a popular entertainment for children and adults alike. A Balloon artist twists and ties inflated tubular balloons into shapes resembling animals or even people. Sometimes they are called balloon sculptures, not to be confused with those cited below. When I have watched these artists at work I have often wondered why the balloons don’t burst when they are working.

Extra-stretchy rubber which can be twisted and tied are used for balloon sculptures. Where the tiny tubular balloons are extremely hard to inflate foil balloons filled with gas can be successfully used with printed Logos to advertise a company.

Balloon Sculptures

Professional party decorators may use hundreds of helium balloons to create balloon sculptures. These sculptures are often limited because of the round shape of the balloons to simple arches or walls but on occasion more ambitious “sculptures” have been attempted. Sometimes balloons are used as table decorations for special events which will have 3 or 5 balloons to each bouquet. The decoration will usually include curled ribbon with an added weight to stop the balloons from floating away.

Professional balloon party decorators use electronic equipment to enable the exact amount of helium to fill the balloon. For non-floating balloons air inflators are used. Professional quality balloons differ from most retail packet balloons as they are bigger in size and made from 100% biodegradable latex.

Balloon Drops

I am sure you will have been to a party or dance where at the end of the evening hundreds of balloons fall from the ceiling to mingle amongst the participants. This is known as a balloon drop and is often performed at New Year’s Eve celebrations or at political rallies and conventions. It is a relatively low cost way of making a festive atmosphere at the party climax, so everyone goes away feeling they have had a really good time.

If you want to create a balloon drop for your own event you will need to set up a large plastic bag or net overhead, which is suspended at a certain height. This is then filled with air-inflated balloons so that they will fall onto the target area below when the balloons are released. You will also need to devise a mechanism for releasing the balloons. Balloon drops may also be performed at many celebrations, including graduations and weddings.

Balloon Rockets

As a child I am sure you played the game of blowing up a balloon then letting it go while watching it speed around the room making a rude noise with everyone falling about laughing. These are called balloon rockets and I remember being enthralled and wondering how they worked. When the mouth of the balloon is released, the greater pressure of air inside forces its way out and the elasticity of the balloon contracts causing the balloon to be propelled forward. This is fundamentally how a rocket works. The balloon can also be filled with gases other than air, with similar results. Besides being simple toys, balloon rockets are a widely used teaching device to demonstrate physical principles and the functioning of a rocket. The balloon rocket is regularly used to demonstrate Newton’s third law in physics.

Balloon Publicity

How do you find the requisite balloons for a major fund raising event? There are companies who specialise in printing a company logo or message onto balloons like your local UK balloon delivery agent and can produce them in large quantities to be delivered directly to the venue.

Balloon Releases

In Australia they had a fund raising event on 18th April for Make-A-Wish Day. The 5,000 released balloons make a dramatic sight as they rise across the bay marking the number of wishes granted since 1985.

If you are planning a balloon release or race of more than 5,000 balloons, it is a requirement that you apply in writing for permission to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) at least 28 days in advance. The CAA also like to be informed of balloon releases up to 5,000. A form can be obtained by calling either the NABAS office on 01989 762 204 or the Airspace Utilisation Section of the CAA on 020 7453 6599

Because of concerns about the bearing on the environment of large numbers of balloons being released, the NABAS - The Balloon Association have produced a code of conduct which can be found on their website at www.nabas.co.uk

Safety and Environmental Concerns

Balloons are made of natural rubber latex (NRL) which is a natural product coming from rubber trees that are grown in certain areas of the tropics. These are not trees that are cut down to produce the NRL. The NRL is obtained by tapping from mature trees and is a sustainable crop providing employment for many agricultural workers in some of the poorest areas of the world.

As a consequence of NRL cultivation and the consumption of latex products, the planting and maintenance of rubber tree plantations helps towards the prevention of tropical rainforest deforestation. This contributes significantly to the removal of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, produced by industrialised nations and a major source of global warming.

Research shows that latex balloons which are completely natural coming from the Hevea tree degrade faster than oak leaves. Oxidation occurs first in the breakdown of latex and it begins within an hour of a balloon being inflated. As the decaying process is by natural exposure nutrients are released into the soil. Most balloons used in releases today are made of bio-degradable latex.

An estimated 90/95% of balloons released rise to an altitude of 5 miles, at which height the cold will cause the balloon to become brittle and shatter into miniscule pieces. The small fragments then floating back to earth to degrade in the ground. Balloon fragments are unlikely to cause harm if accidentally ingested. This is because latex and the dyes used in latex colouring are non-toxic.

Printed latex balloons are a fantastic, low-cost and environmentally friendly way of advertising at promotions and events. All latex balloons supplied by B-Loony, the UK’s largest printed balloon manufacturer, are completely biodegradable. The code of conduct produced by NABAS for balloon releases gives advice to ensure the protection of our environment.

Manufacture of Balloons

Balloons are manufactured by their millions every day in many countries. The rubber is collected as liquid from a rubber tree and then sent to the factories where the liquid goes through a series of treatment processes. These processes include shaping and colouring operations and testing for quality. The end products are thousands balloons which provide a splash of colour and party atmosphere at celebrations and conferences or any event where a large number of people gather.

Conclusion

Toy balloons have been a source of pleasure and excitement throughout the world for many years. They have provided hours of entertainment and interest for children as well as being an educational resource. Non toy Balloons are being used for science, medicine and travel and are invaluable in helping us to learn about our world. Balloons I am sure will remain very alive and active on the world’s scene for many years to come.

Cooking With Tea Leaves

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Since we now better understand the nutritional properties of tea any additional mode to take it into our menu is good. Another benefit of seasoning with tea is that it is an effective technique to add or heighten the flavor of a meal without adding undesirable elements like fat, calories or sodium, that sometimes make up a part of different flavor amplifiers.

While cooking with tea can seem to be a fresh trend, it has really been around virtually as long as the beverage itself. The famous Chinese oolong tea itself possesses a story as vibrant and interesting as the individuals who produced it.

The Chinese have been utilising black tea to simmer and smoke dishes for centuries. The Japanese have been loving a dish that is made by streaming green tea all over rice before dishing. The British British have been employing tea leaf to flavor tea cakes and to stew dried fruit for ages.

Many eastern civilizations have applied tea to facilitate maintaining a nutritious balance in their dieting in addition to merely flavoring their robust dishes. As an example, infusing wulong tea for weight loss or green tea as an anti-oxident.

Hot cooks have been broadening these functions of tea and finding that just little additions are able to lend a fullness to meals without overcoming the true flavor of the dish. As an example, attempt to a tablespoon of English Breakfast tea to a dressing, or a Jasmine teabag or 2 to rice as it is cooking. A formosa oolong tea can lend an innovative flavor to otherwise simple dishes.

Cooking with tea doesn’t need to be limited to the appetizer or main course. Tea may also lend a complex taste to dessert. Full black teas such as Darjeeling have deep tones that assist to fortify the flavor of chocolate desserts. Green teas are capable of adding a pizzazz to creamy desserts while they also tend to calm the tart flavor of a citrus fruit sorbet. Although fragrant teas like chai are capable of imparting a pleasurable flavor to full desserts like cake or frosting.

The Importance of a Good Website Design

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Your website is the hub of your online business; it is the virtual representation of your company whether your company exists physically or not.

When you are doing business online, people cannot see you physically like how they could if they were dealing with an offline company. Hence, people do judge you by your covers. This is where a good design comes in.

Imagine if you are running an offline company. Would you allow your salespersons to be dressed in shabby or casual clothes when they are dealing with your customers? By making your staff wear professionally, you are telling your customers that you do care about quality. This works simply because first impressions matter.

Similarly, the same case is with your website. If your website is put together shabbily and looks like a 5 minute “quick fix”, you are literally shouting to your visitors that you are not professional and you do not care for quality.

On the opposite, if you have a totally professional looking website layout, you are giving your visitors the perception that you have given meticulous attention to every detail and you care about professionalism. You are organised, focused and you really mean business.

On the other hand, you should also have anything related to your company well designed. From business cards to letterheads to promotional brochures, every little bit matters.

This is because as you grow your business, these items become the face of your business. Once again, think of the “salesperson dressed shabbily” anology, and you will understand. For a great website design company, please visit NeoWebCreations.com.

Want to order newspapers online? There are some good suppliers

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

It is a well-known fact that journals can be ordered online. But not everybody knows that you can also subscribe to your daily paper online. The following site reviews some important online suppliers providing German papers: Suedthueringer Zeitung Abo. These online shops sell several hundred daily and weekly newspapers. You can order them for a gratis trial period.

What are the advantages of subscribing to your favorite daily or weekly gazette instead of buying it each time it is published, and what are some special rules for ordering German newspaper subscriptions?

The companies selling newspapers have very easy to use online shops. You can search by title or even by zip code to find out which gazettes are sold at your place of domicile. One should always verify if there is a premium subscription available. I would always go for that because of the nice bonuses. But it is important to know that the gifts coming with a new subscription normally cannot be taken by the new customer themselves but by the person who recommended the new reader. So it is useful to order the paper together with a friend or family member. One plays the role of the new reader and the other one gets the benefit. You can quickly choose your favorite newspaper - e.g. this one: Winnender Zeitung Abo - and use the free trial subscription. Using the free trial period of about 2 weeks is the best solution for everybody who is not absolutely sure if they want subscribe to their favorite newspaper permanently. So they can test it extensively and take time to make the right decision.

The gazettes can be ordered for a free trial period of about 2 weeks. Every potential customer can benefit from this good opportunity. During the free trial period you can decide whether you wish to continue getting the newspaper, or if you want to stop it. Many gazettes are also offered as premium subscriptions. This means one can obtain valuable benefits like money, gift vouchers or electronic devices when ordering a newspaper subscription via Internet. These bonuses are often worth several weeks or even months of the subscription rate. Buying your paper on the Internet is quick and easy to do. Your daily paper will be delivered regularly in the morning. The best online vendors offer several hundred different titles. So almost everyone should find their regional paper immediately.

Starting a football programme collection

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

In general you find a few different types of collectors within the football programme enthusiast community. There is the potential collector who has a passing interest in beginning a programme collection, there is the latent collector who collects programmes very sporadically, there is the casual collector who may collect football programmes without having a specific theme to their collection, and also there is the confirmed collector who has specific aims and regularly tries to acquire programmes in order to enhance his or her collection.

There is no exact size to a collection, and the only limitations to it come in the form of your available finance. To be a collector, there is no need to own highly sort after programmes, just simply something that brings pleasure or a sense of achievement to the collector. Programme collectors come from all sorts of backgrounds.

In the early stages of a collection, a collector may try to buy everything on offer to their collection as soon as they can in order to give it some bulk. However, with this comes a loss of tangible meaning, and later when restrictions may mean a particular theme has to be selected and explored in order to further a collection.

There really are an unlimited number of themes and sub-themes of programmes that can be collected. However, there are certain traditional ways to build a collection. For example, for example all those programmes involving a particular team, all those concerned with a specific competition, etc. During the course of a collection a person is likely to experience the joys and pitfalls of acquiring a sought after football programme, or the frustration of not being able to find a source for one that is key to your collection.

Those collectors who are more causal in their approach to the collecting of football programmes will usually own a limited number of special programmes for major finals or semi-finals for the team that they personally follow, internationals, testimonials, special fixtures, or other big cup matches. These can basically be classified as a Big Match programme.

If you have a strong affection for a particular soccer club your mission in programme collecting may be to simply buy all issues for your favourite team. In addition to the regular league matches and cup-ties, you may also attempt to collect programmes from friendlies, foreign tours, reserve teams, and youth teams.

One way of increasing the depth and scope of your collection is by choosing an earlier date for the time period for which you’re collecting. You could, for example, decide to collect back to 1950, etc.

A collector who is fairly neutral in their affiliations, and just has a general passion for football will tend to widen the scope of their collection. In these sorts of collections you often find football programmes from a number of teams at different levels (including non-league). For the more adventurous collector, football programmes may have been acquired from other countries.

DVD Duplication A Growing Trend

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Going paperless is the in thing today in many industries. Many companies have opted to go digital in terms of storing important data pertaining to their businesses such as keeping employees files, accounting, billing to issuing copies of reports to management, shareholders and clients. This is one of the reasons why autoloader DVD duplicator has become a popular trend among numerous organizations

DVD duplication is the process of transferring data and audio or what is commonly known as burning from various sources onto a DVD recordable disc. The process is similar with CD duplication.

The main difference between the CD and DVD is in the amount of data they store. While a CD can hold about 650 megabytes of information and about 75 minutes of music, a DVD can store more by as much as 4.7 gigabytes or seven times more than the CDs storage capacity. You may have noticed that a single movie or even multiple movies can be stored in only one DVD but with the CD, a regular length movie usually requires two CDs. As for music, a DVD can store up to eight hours of music on each side.

The DVDs big storage capacity can be attributed to its smaller bumps and closer tracks. Data stored can either be static or dynamic.

Additionally, the Blu-ray disc (BD) is another medium for storing data and notably high-definition video. It uses a red laser and has a greater storage space than the DVD due to its shorter wavelength. Up to 50 gigabytes of information can be stored in a dual layer Blu-ray disc which is six times that of a dual layer DVDs capacity.

The trend

For companies keeping up with the latest technology, gone are the days of distributing paper copies of financial reports and keeping VHS tapes of their special events. These days, corporations make video productions of their presentations and provide DVD copies to clients, business partners and sales staff.

For this reason, both robotic dvd duplicator have become very popular particularly in the corporate world. Apart from the high demand from companies and the affordability of the duplication process, several other factors contribute to this growing trend including the prices of DVD media and equipment which have become very competitive in recent years. These, in turn, enables event videographers to add duplication services to their existing videography business to serve corporations that need a high volume of DVD copies for distribution to management executives, stockholders and clients. Besides DVD, some duplicators also accommodate VHS and CD duplication as well as replication. Some also offer both duplicating services and products for their clients convenience.

CD DVD duplicator can be done in-house if the company has the necessary equipment or outsourced to a third party duplicator. With an in-house duplication, a company has control over the video production. The only downside is that it has to invest in the duplication equipment which could be quite costly.

The future

Many experts in this field believe theres truly a bright future for DVD duplication and videographers. Proof of this is the mushrooming of copy shops despite the stiff competition with photocopiers and printers.

The duplicating equipment should not be a problem as no shortage is expected. Tower duplicators and standalone printers are in sufficient supply. In fact, there are companies, too, that provide complete solutions such as the robotic arms that can do the duplication and printing at the same time of up to 600 discs in an automated manner.

Clone Golf Clubs for a Tough Economy

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

There are many reasons to get a new set of golf clubs. New club technology makes it easier to get the ball in the air. New club designs give you more distance on mis-hits. Cutting edge golf equipment makes the game more enjoyable and fun.

That is, until you have to pay for it.

Golf clubs and other equipment is expensive. With the economy as bad as it is, everyone is looking for  discount golf irons and value-priced golf club drivers. Still, that new Callaway or Ping driver looks nice, doesn’t it?

But does it really cost $500 to make that new driver? Of course not. The materials for that pricey driver are around $10-20. So who’s getting rich? A lot of people are taking their cut along the way. The club manufacturer pays an entire staff of research scientists to come up with the latest innovations. They spend big bucks on TV, magazine and other print media ads. They pay huge endorsements to PGA touring pros so they will play their equipment and wear their logo. All that cost’s money. And then, of course they have to add in their own profit for share holders.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get that same quality of club without having to pay the pros endorsements (as if they don’t already make enough!) and other associated costs?

Did you know you already can?

They are called clone golf clubs. These are clubs that have head components cast and forged at the same foundries overseas that make the name brand golf equipment. These components are then assembled in the US with quality shafts and grips. You get a quality club for 1/4 to 1/5 the price of a name brand golf club.

There are several different companies who sell knockoff drivers, irons and other golf club clones. One of the best ways is to visit an aggregator site that shows you some of the best clubs from different clone golf club manufactureres. One such site is www.DiscountGolfClones.com.

The best thing is that you can get that new set of golf clubs, even in this brutal economy, and not feel guilty about it at all. In fact, with the money you save, you will actually have the money to spend on green fees so you can enjoy them on the course.

Hit ‘em long and straight!
